6061 aluminium sheet combines useful strength, corrosion resistance, machinability and weldability. The temper must be stated because heat treatment and stress relief affect strength, forming behavior and dimensional stability.
Common Temper Comparison
| Temper | General condition | Selection note |
|---|---|---|
| T4 | Solution heat-treated and naturally aged | Lower strength than T6; may offer more forming capability depending on operation |
| T6 | Solution heat-treated and artificially aged | Common choice where higher strength and machining performance are required |
| T651 | T6 condition with stress relief by stretching | Often selected to improve dimensional stability in plate machining |
What to Put on the RFQ
| Standard and alloy | Required ASTM, EN or project specification; 6061 designation |
|---|---|
| Temper | T4, T6, T651 or drawing-specified condition |
| Dimensions | Thickness, width, length, tolerances and flatness |
| Surface | Mill finish, protective film, anodizing or machining requirement |
| Inspection | Certificate type, chemistry, mechanical properties and special testing |
Fabrication Notes
Welding can reduce strength in the heat-affected zone, while bending limits depend on temper, thickness and direction. Final design values and forming radii should be taken from the governing specification and validated for the actual process.
