6061-T651 Aluminum Plate
6061-T651 Aluminum Plate Overview
6061-T651 Aluminum Plate is a heat-treated and stress-relieved Al-Mg-Si alloy plate widely used for precision machining, tooling, fixtures, structural components and general engineering applications.
The T651 temper indicates solution heat treatment, controlled stress relief by stretching and artificial aging. Compared with standard T6 condition, T651 is commonly selected for plate applications where dimensional stability during machining is important.
SASA ALUMINUM supplies 6061-T651 aluminum plate according to customer requirements for thickness, width, length, flatness, surface condition, cutting and downstream machining.

What Does T651 Mean?
T651 is a stress-relieved temper based on the T6 heat-treated condition. After solution heat treatment and quenching, the plate is stretched to reduce residual stress and then artificially aged to develop the required mechanical properties.
| Processing Stage | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Solution Heat Treatment | Prepares the alloy for precipitation hardening. |
| Quenching | Retains alloying elements in a supersaturated solid solution. |
| Stress Relief by Stretching | Reduces residual stress and improves dimensional stability during machining. |
| Artificial Aging | Develops the final T651 strength condition. |
6061-T6 vs 6061-T651 Aluminum Plate
6061-T6 and 6061-T651 are closely related heat-treated conditions, but T651 includes an additional stress-relief step that makes it particularly useful for machining plate.
| Feature | 6061-T6 | 6061-T651 |
|---|---|---|
| Heat Treatment | Solution heat treated and artificially aged | T6 condition plus stress relief by stretching |
| Residual Stress | Standard T6 condition | Reduced residual stress |
| Machining Stability | Good | Preferred for heavy machining and dimensional stability |
| Typical Use | General structural and engineering components | Fixtures, tooling, machined plates and precision components |
6061 Aluminum Chemical Composition
| Element | Mg | Si | Cu | Cr | Fe | Mn | Zn | Ti | Al |
