    7049 Aluminum Heat Treatment and Tempers:

     7049 aluminum is available in several tempers, each tailored for specific mechanical and corrosion-resistance requirements:

    • T7651 / T7451 – Delivers high strength with excellent stress corrosion resistance, commonly applied in wing spars and fuselage panels.

    Heat Treatment Process
    7049 aluminum undergoes solution heat treatment at approximately 875°F (468°C), followed by rapid water quenching. Subsequent artificial aging—such as holding at 250°F (121°C) for 24 hours—enhances dimensional stability, fracture toughness, and corrosion resistance depending on the chosen temper.
