    Aluminum 5086 Plate has even higher strength than 5052 or 5083 and its mechanical properties vary significantly with hardening and temperature. 5086 Aluminum Plate is not strengthened by heat treatment; instead, it becomes stronger due to strain hardening or cold working of the material. Aluminum Armor plate 5086 can be readily welded, retaining most of its mechanical strength. The good results with welding and good corrosion properties in seawater make Alloy 5086 Plate extremely popular in marine applications. Aluminum Plate 5086 has been used in vehicle armor plate due to its high strength factor.

    • T3 – Solution heat treated, cold worked, and naturally aged to a substantially stable condition.
    • T4 – Solution heat treated, and naturally aged to a substantially stable condition.
    • T5 – Cooled from an elevated temperature shaping process then artificially aged.
    • T6 – Solution heat treated then artificially aged.
    • T7 – Solution heat treated then overaged/stabilized.

    H Temper Strain Hardening Codes for Aluminium 5086 Plates

    • H1 – Strain hardened only
    • H2 – Strain hardened and partially annealed
    • H3 – Strain hardened and stabilized
    • H4 – Strain hardened and lacquered or painted. This assumes that thermal affects from the coating process affect the strain hardening; seldom encountered.
